Finishes in a brilliant 4th position a race conditioned by the rain
The 250cc race has been canceled due to the bad weather conditions
As it has happened during all this weekend, once again today the rain has been the protagonist of the 125cc race corresponding to the GP of Indianapolis. The weather conditions today during the 125cc race have been so hard that the Race Direction has decided to end the race seven laps before the end. This circumstance has penalized the Blusens Aprilia rider Scott Redding, who has lost in that last lap for only two tenths of a second, the third position in which he has been in nearly all the race. Anyway, with the fourth position scored today, the young British rider has completed again an extraordinary GP and thanks to this he recovers the tenth position of the World Championship. His teammate Efrén Vázquez has had a more discreet performance, by finishing 20th.
During all the weekend Scott Redding has shown again his great capacity to adapt to unknown tracks, managing to ride really fast in both dry and wet conditions. That’s why it has not been a surprise to see the British rider fighting for the first positions from the beginning of the race. More or less in the middle of the race, when Scott was riding in podium positions, the rain has made his appearance on the Indianapolis track. The Race Direction has decided not to stop the race until the 75% of it, was finished. Ricard Jové, General Manager of the Blusens Aprilia team, said “perhaps the logical thing had been to stop the race when it has begun to rain to avoid risks to the riders. Scott was pending of that decision and just in the last moment he has lost the podium. It’s been a shame but anyway we must be so happy with the extraordinary work done”.
Everything has been different for Efrén Vázquez. Yesterday he had a lot of problems to find a good setting on the dry conditions. Today the performance of his Aprilia has been better but anyway he has not been able to reach any point. Vázquez who started in a delayed sixth row of the grid, has been fighting in the 16th position. In the last part of the race, when the rain was already on the track, he has been so close of crashing and he has lost some positions until the 20th.
The other great new of the session has been the decision of cancelling the 250cc race because with the hard wind and the rain it was very dangerous for the riders to celebrate the race. It has been a hard decision because the 250 World Championship loses this way one race, as there is not going to be any point distribution in this Indianapolis GP for this category.
Scott Redding (125cc – 4th - 29’55”627 - 1’51”077) “In the end I expected to obtain a better result. During all the GP I’ve been riding very fast and always into the front positions and that’s why I’m not totally happy because I’ve lost the podium in the last moment. When I’ve seen the flags informing of the rain I was sure that the race was going to be stopped because it was so much rain in the track. Anyway I’m very happy because this is a great result and thanks to it I reach again the Top 10 in the World Championship”.
Efrén Vázquez (125cc – 20th - 30’32”341 - 1’51”963) “I can’t be satisfied with this result. We have had another hard weekend again without any luck and success. During all race I have been very uncomfortable. I wasn’t able to ride well into the line and due to this I couldn’t follow any other rider. Anyway I could have finished better if the race has been stopped when the rain appeared, restarting it before”.
